At Horsepower Athletics, we recognize that everyone’s fitness journey is unique. We also know that working out in a group setting is an extremely effective form of exercise. Because no one person is the same, we prefer an individualized approach to introducing new athletes to our program. This approach fosters a close relationship between the athlete and coach and allows us to focus on the needs of you as an individual, while also gaining the benefits of a group fitness environment.
Once you’ve decided that you want to try CrossFit, the next step is to book an introdcutory session with a coach.
During this hour, we strive to get to know you and to learn about your fitness background. We want to know why you’ve decided to make this step, where you are on your fitness journey and your goals. We will briefly describe the philosiphies of CrossFit and Horsepower Athletics. From there we will conduct a physical assessment that will include movements that we often see in a typical workout. Everything we do will be at your pace. This assessment as well as the information you provided to us in the begining, will tell us what we will be working on during your fundamentals.
The intro session is a one on one session with one of our experienced coaches that will cover your goals, a fitness and mobility assessment, and a plan to execute your individualized fitness needs. Your coach will help familiarize you with our facility and our community. You and your coach will discuss your goals and how we can help you achieve them. This coach will be your coach for life, and your main contact at Horsepower Athletics throughout your fitness journey. After Fundamentals, once you have entered the group CrossFit classes, you continue to meet with your coach periodically and discuss how things are going and where you need to improve.
After your fitness assessment, you will begin one-on-one personal training sessions with your coach.
During these sessions, you will learn 35 to 40 key movements. You will build strength, speed, power, and stamina. You will learn about proper warm-ups, mobility and recovery. You will develop better body awareness and will learn about injury-prevention. You will also tackle your diet and nutrition, and will work with your coach to discover the best fuel for your individual needs.
You will set short and long-term goals and commit to a plan to achieve them. When you have developed the necessary skills and fitness you will graduate to the group classes.
Once you graduate to the group class, you will start attending the CrossFit classes as often as you’d like. Our community will help you reach new heights of fitness, and help push you to work harder than ever. At the same time, you will continue to work with your coach on your specific limitations in a one-on-one environment once every 3 months, or more often if you wish. This will help both you and your coach continue to monitor your progress and will help keep you safe and injury-free.
